Ovviamente sì, il cavallo!
Sappiamo tutti che gli inglesi amano questi animali, e proprio da questo amore e rispetto pensavo fosse nata l'espressione:
STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH = da fonte certa.
Quando sentiamo qualcuno dire "l'ho sentito direttamente dalla bocca del cavallo", significa che questo fatto é sicuramente vero. Non possiamo contestarlo, è un fatto reale, certo.
La verità è che i cavalli sono stati per secoli un bene prezioso, e alcuni venditori un pò disonesti cercavano di vendere cavalli senza particolari qualità a prezzi molto alti, mentendo sulle loro caratteristiche, ad esempio sul'età.
Tuttavia, chiunque si intendesse di cavalli sapeva che si poteva capirne l'età esaminando la dimensione e la forma dei denti, letteralmente ottenendo la verità "direttamente dalla bocca del cavallo".
Proviamo a vedere se funziona anche con gli umani.

We all know that the English love these animals, I thought the expression was born out of this love and respect.
The truth is, horses have always been a prized commodity down through the ages. There were a lot of dishonest people who would try to sell horses with no qualities to potential buyers. They would also lie about a horse's age. However, anyone who knew anything about horses knew that you could tell the age by examining the size and shape of the teeth, literally getting the truth straight from the horse's mouth.
